I've been coming to Snowmass for over 15 years and have been at this restaurant five times. It recently has a new owner but has the same chef. The food is superb and the atmosphere was warm and friendly, I like the fact that the new owner is friendly and casual. It doesn't have the pretentious and snobby atmosphere like some other high end restaurants. I've tried both the elk and buffalo and they are both good, but I find the buffalo more tender. The service is warm and friendly as well. I was surprised by some of the "one star" review, but when you read those, they are not rating the food or the restaurant but they are rating the dog sled business.

Full five stars for this awesome place!! We visited Krabloonik on our first afternoon in town as we acclimated to the altitude. Staff is super friendly and helpful, and the mushers are great! It's a totally worthwhile experience, if you've never done it before. The dogs are amazing, it's pretty inspiring to see how much they enjoy their "job." And the views are something else. Post sledding, we sat by the woodstove for some hot cocktails while we warmed up. This is truly the quintessential ski vacation activity, and Krabloonik is set up perfectly for it. A+ for the hot apple cider cocktail. After that, we had a fantastic (humongous) four-course meal, which was my favorite dinner of the whole weekend. Highlights: elk tenderloin, mushroom soup, cream dessert. Also, great wine selection. If you're on the fence, I'd recommend that you take the plunge!

There seem to be mixed reviews of Krabloonik. My experience was very enjoyable. A friend and I went for a dog sled ride and lunch on a recent Friday morning. Our musher was very knowledgeable, dedicated to his dogs and experienced. While the ride was a bit shorter than I had expected, it was through beautiful scenery, with a stop near the river for hot chocolate. From what I saw the dogs were treated well. Lunch was several courses, with the mushroom soup being a highlight. All the staff I encountered were friendly and professional. I recommend this as a fun alternative to typical ski resort offerings.

As of December 1 Krabloonik has a new owner, Gina, who comes from owning a lodge and restaurant in Idaho. She knows the upscale restaurant business very well and has kept the entire staff. She's very dedicated to ensuring everyone as a very special night out and clearly takes pride in her restaurant's guests. Our party of five had several people that have been to Krabloonik many times and they said this has always been a top spot to go.Service was top notch; our waiter has been there since about 1982. The restaurant is in a rustic cabin probably built 75+ years ago and is as comfortable as it is charming. The menu is fantastic with a wide range of game like buffalo and elk which were prepared perfectly. Desserts were absolutely the best I've had and the wine list was more than enough choices at decent prices. I know there are a lot of extreme animal rights activists who do not like that Krabloonik also is associated with a dogsledding business and these activists consistently rate Krabloonik a one star to try to get their point across. Don't be fooled, this restaurant is one of the best you will find.

We had a most incredible experience at Krabloonik. We were warmly greeted upon our arrival by Gina. Then after an interesting and enchanting tour of the sled dog kennels with Danny we had dinner in the restaurant. The service was exemplary. The chef was amazing and he came out before and after our meal to check our preferences and make sure that everything was to our liking. Brian, our server, made an excellent wine suggestion and was perfectly attentive. Dinner started with a delicious amuse-bouche and ended with an scrumptious dessert. Everything in between was wonderful! The most memorable moment was before dinner when we got to hold four-week-old sled-dog puppies!

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant while visiting Snowmass this past week after a friend recommended we check it out. We really enjoyed our experience. The setting is cozy and romantic, but also a nice place to go with a group of friends or family. The sled dogs were howling when we arrived which was pretty cool and the log cabin is nestled between the mountains. Very picturesque. We had fantastic, attentive service. It was a little slower paced, but we were fine with that as we were in no rush. We had the elk and the buffalo for our entrees. Both were fantastic, but I liked the elk a bit more. We had the baked Brie starter, which was good but I've had better, and the bison tartar which my boyfriend says was well presented and full flavored--only use a pinch of salt. We had the au gratin potatoes and spaetzle for our side dishes, both pretty average. The wine bottle prices are fairly reasonable. We had the homemade tiramisu for dessert which was decent. Overall I'd definitely recommend this restaurant for those who'd like something different, outdoorsy types and a good restaurant not in one of the village areas. We'll be back!

Had dinner there last night. Service was passable and food was ok. However for the prices I would expect a lot more. Food cost nearly $300 (taking out the wine which was very overpriced) my husband's food arrived cold and mine was tough. The waiter blamed the food on the kitchen 'rushing him' before we had even taken a bite so I suspect he knew it was not going to be great when he put it down.

We visited this place yesterday to check out the place and see the dogs. There were 6 sleds that departed one after another before dinner. The dogs all look well treated and were absolutely psyched to run. We spoke with the manager at length about the operation. He said they have 249 dogs. This is because they rotate the dogs so they can rest between rides. They breed the dogs there. We asked if we could meet the dogs. We did and they were wonderful and happy to interact. We saw no cruelty and would like to visit again next year.

I finally get my forum to post a review on this rip-off after about 20 years. I know. 20 years is a long time to give a review but by the look of some of these other recent ones it appears not much has changed. Its a great touristy thing to do for people to do the first time in Aspen. But dont go for the food or service. Both are horrible. One our our guests was treated horribly when he was told that his credit card had expired. (this was not the case by the way) Went with a party of 6 which they also decided not to tell us about the 18% included gratuity which we added another 20% on top of. You can imagine the additional cost added to that bill especially after several expensive wines and countless coucktails. After arriving home we called the restaurant when we noticed the error. Was just hoping for some kind of compensation if not a full eradication of the secondary tip. We were told nothing can be done. Now. 20 years later I can put it in print. Go screw yourself Kraplooniks!

This place is riding on its fame and the fact that it has a captive audience via its touristy location in Snowmass. Krabloonik would have been long gone in a more competitive environment. Here, it thrives. You can expect to pay out the nose for embarrassingly subpar food. Our table paid the following: $60 for elk; $50 for buffalo; $50 for boar; $30 for pasta with a single slice of pheasant; and $50 for a single filet of trout. Glasses of chardonnay were $17, beers were $11. $18 for a salad that was a basically a pile of greens drowning in gorgonzola and cherry tomatoes. The food was fine, but nothing memorable (except for the price). the Pheasant was dry, cold to the touch, and tossed on a plate of pasta as an afterthought. The trout was tasty, but overcooked and served with overcooked brown rice and green beans drowning in butter. The elk and boar were slathered in a brown sauce that tasted strikingly similar. The atmosphere was certainly unique, and our server was wonderful, but seriously, Krabloonik is a total ripoff. You can find far better fare for half the price in Snowmass. Bottom Line: Expensive, tired cuisine served in a neat atmosphere that does not warrant the markup. You will spend $500 here and leave without having had a memorable meal.

Their location was hard to find at night especially when it is snowing and the driver is not used to driving during snowfall. But as soon as we arrived we were given a very warm welcome. They took our coats and showed us our table. Eventhough we were late, they were very hospitable. And "Santa" came out again to say "Hi" to the kids and gave them gifts. The menu was not really created for vegetarians but if you love meat like I do, you will be like a kid in a candy store. We ordered the lamb, elk, wild boar, bison, and lobster tail. The best one we liked was the lamb, it was nice and juicy. I personally had the elk and ordered it medium rare. It was delicious. The elk was so lean so no need to cook it too much. The owner went to our table and made sure that we are okay, which is very nice. They have a nice wine list from clear whites to strong reds. And the price is for all budget. They have wines from $30-$300 which i think is priced pretty average. We ordered a 7 year old bottle of merlot which went great with the food that we ordered. Overall our experience here for Christmas eve was great. If I ever come back to Aspen / Snowmass Village, I would definitely eat here again and again.

I came here for lunch, when it's slightly less expensive, and had a great experience. I had the tuna tartar for an appetizer and nut-encrusted trout for an entrée, which were both great. The group I came with also ordered brioches with various jams for the table, and that was great too. Everyone loved their meals. The service is very attentive, and we got into a conversation with one of the owner's siblings, who was lovely and offered us home-baked sugar cookies (free of charge), and let us play with the sled dogs outside -- which is the biggest perk of this restaurant.

UMMMM.... YEAAAAA.... A vegetarian eating here is not good, but rather emotional. :( They served ostrich, venison, elk, and all these poor animals :( People were walking around in fur coats; i felt like throwing red paint on them, and joining GANGSTER-ASS PETA!!! The only veggie item here was potatoes and string beans :( I understand its snowmass but vegetarians DO TRAVEL. The dessert menu was good, that's why it gets 3 stars. RIP. poor animals. But i do think the dog sledding is cool.

Service was a bit on the slow side and there were only a few other tables seated. Our waiter missed most of the introductory information that we later heard a waitress explaining the specials and such to a different table after we had eaten. We had some really great wine although once it was empty we had to wait quite some time before we could ask to have another bottle brought. The food was average. Menu was definitely interesting but wasn't mind blowing. The macadamia encrusted trout was the best of the four entrees we ordered including pheasant, elk, and buffalo. Overall, for over $100/head the service was lacking and food was average.

Great idea in theory. It's a very unique and rustic setting on the hillside of Snowmass; however the food and service leave nothing to be desired. The service was horrible (3 out out 6 wine glasses with lipstick stains, meals not coming out at the same time, things not prepared the way we asked and took way too long to fix once we told them) and the food was below my standards for what they were charging. The idea of their 'game and fish' menu is great, but the way they brought out the food and didn't know who ordered what amazed me. At a smaller more 'local' place this would be okay. But if I order a small $12 green salad and you charge me an additional $7 to put it on two plates (without telling me) and then it's still not the way I ordered it; and then I order a $46 entree I expect you to know who at the table ordered what. My brother's meal came out a good 8 minutes after the rest of ours. All of this was just topped off by the fact that no one cared the service was so lousy. If they had been apologetic about the blatantly dirty wine glasses, the mixed up order or the spoiled wine they served us (I forgot to mention that earlier! With no replacements taken off our bill) it would have been a little better. We easily racked up a +$500 bill for 6 people and it was the worst money I ever spent! Moral of the story, if you want to drop a very pretty penny for bad service, dried out food that sounds fancy, and a general lack of knowledge about how to make your customers happy, this is the place. Enjoy!

Excellant! We had the Elk Wellington and the Macadamia Nut Crusted Trout. They were both extraordinary. Service was great. It was a perfect evening!
